So...you want to know more about Rachel

Up on the first page I gave you a general overview of what I do and like. Down here on this page I'll give you a bit more detail, since you asked.

Work

I work in security doing many and varied things at AT&T at the Information Security Center. I am doing some work with PKI & Intrusion Detection among other things. It's great to be working in security again.

Shortly before this I was developing in Java. And I had been looking at ANTLR, a cousin of yacc, and javacc as possible tools for implementing a command line interpreter. I may yet find a chance to play with antlr. Compiler design...cool stuff One of those things I missed out on by being a Politics and Legal Studies Major in college.

Computational Fascinations

In general I like puzzles and problem solving. I have programmed in various languages including Perl, C, Java, JavaScript and Bourne shell.
I've debugged programs in even more languages. Some of which we won't even mention. :]

I also am interested in computer security, which is a pretty vast area of knowledge. My expertise is in the areas of system security, encryption, information warfare, and network security. For those who like certification, I am CISSP certified. For those who don't like certification you can ignore the previous sentance.

Even when I was disguised as a mild mannered developer I still kept some background processes going on security. This is what I wrote about that the last round of this web page: (As it is currently 3:30 AM and my typing is begining to degrade excessively I will leave off with the warning that what is below maybe be out of date, but hopefully not terribly.) I currently read a few mailing lists and have interest in several security "projects".

My web design projects have been on hold for a while. The rate of change in web tools makes my skill set in web designing to be a bit rusty. DHTML, style sheets, and "plug-in mania" has come on the scene since I've last had a chance to really work on web design. The most recent web page that I worked on is the "Moshiach Now!" web page. Yes, this is the one that was in Wired magazine.

Beyond the Computer

Well, these days there really isn't much that isn't also on the computer. Of course, in this section I'll give you a bunch of links where you can learn some of what I do off the computer. Sometimes the hard copy books are better anyway. (Although the Electronic Ink concept has potential.)

Disguised as a mild mannered programer in real life I am a Lubavitcher Chassid, fighting for truth, justice and Moshiach Now!

In addition to teaching in cyberspace and taking care of our home I also study Chassidus. In addition to learning Tanya daily (G-d willing). I try to find time to learn Sichos (Talks on Chassidus) and Maimorim (Deeper talks on Chassidus).

I have begun teaching a class on a section of the Tanya called "Shaar Ha Yichud v'Emunah" (The gates of Unity and Faith). Perhaps soon I will put up a write-up of our class on this web page.

In addition to the Chassidus I am actively working on learning Niggunim. I guess that Niggunim can be best described as soul songs. These songs are meant to touch and reveal the soul. Each melody has its own function and effect. They can be used simply as melodies to uplift one's spirits or can be used as part of prayer and meditation.

Etc.

I also write poetry and an occasional essay. Some day I may get around to putting some of my poetry up here. In the mean time, that abour wraps it up. Drop me a line if you want to chat. I'm rachelr@pobox.com.
