Chris and Rhonda's Cross Country Road Trip

There just aren't enough hours in the day. It's a really good thing that we have this fully-equipped truck here to travel in. And the fully-equipped part is NOT courtesy of Ryder truck. We brought our own equipment for the trip. Here is what we have in the front section of this truck...

The Toy Box:

• Laptop Computer
• Portable CD Player – hooked up to external woofer (bass module) & speakers (Bose-type system)
•  1 Canon Digital Camera
•  Ball Camera
•  2 Standard 3 5mm, 2 Fully-Automatic 35 mm cameras
•  Camcorder
• Most of these items are running on the inverter (note: Inverter has been broken twice, dropped, etc. We have a soldering iron if necessary to fix.)
• CD player running off cigarette lighter

• Lots of birch trees New Hampshire.
• There is a red Opel GT in Hillsborough, NH.
• Hillsborough, NH – Military reservists were all over the place scurrying around.
• No helmet law in New Hampshire
• Favorite bumper sticker of the day: "If you get any closer, we’ll need lubricant."
• New Hampshire is called The Granite State, and boy do they mean it.
• New Hampshire license plates – Live Free or Die
• It was Chris' birthday, but he didn't get his birthday sundae at Friendly's where we had lunch.
• Chris enjoys the redneck viewing…especially at K-Mart
• We definitely need more memory for the digital camera, but...
• GPS/Computer software is able to tell us where all the geek stores are.
• Western store
• Chris bought driving moccasins & a leather belt
• Nice woman in store (but she was camera shy)
• Hand written receipt...how often do you see that anymore?
• Vermont still has snow on the ground in some places.
• In fact, it started snowing on us while driving through Vermont
• Picked up some postcards and a New Hampshire hat for Chris (he has a lot of hats) in Vermont
• Bennington, VT, 8 p.m. Dunkin Donuts…a LINE! 8 p.m. on a Friday night???
• Gas prices in VT, $1.07, unleaded
• Gas prices in NY, $1.15, unleaded
• Side note: Got gas in Arlington, MA. $.98, unleaded (Jack’s Gas)
• Weirdest church name: Sisters of the Precious Blood Monastery, Hillsborough, NH
• Weirdest store name: Grandma Moses’ in Bennington, VT
• Town name in NY: Buskirk and East Buskirk
• Radar detectors are illegal in NY
• Weirdest billboard: If you continue to use my name in vain, I’ll make rush hour longer – God (White print on black billboard)
• Weirdest city name (tie): Hoosick, NY or Cropseyville, NY.
• Found Quackenkill, NY on the map. I hear they used to have ducks there.
• NY roads suck
• Got on damn toll road, going to end up paying over $30 in toll…realized stupid truck has a governor on it set to 66 mph…DAMN!!!!
• New York sucks…no matter what happens in our lifetime, we have decided we WON’T be living in N.Y.

It has been eliminated from the list of possible places to live.
• Best Western in Amsterdam, NY…no rooms available, entire 5th floor is shut down during the winter.

5th floor is the only floor with King/Queen size beds.
• Another note: No clearance sign for the truck, but thousands of No Smoking signs.
• Have we mentioned that New York sucks?
• Happy Birthday, Chris!!!
• Next hotel attempt, Holiday Inn…7 miles from the exit.
• 7 miles WHICH WAY?
• Not the way we chose, of course…backtracking now.
• Nowhere to turn around on these little roads, ack!
• Stayed in Roadway Inn, Palatine Bridge, NY
