I am not going to claim to be very knowledgeable about
either Spalding Gray or Joe Frank, just am a fan of
both. And if I'm repeating anything anyone has said, I
apologize.
Spalding came out of the theatre world, he was one of
the founding members of The Wooster Group, along with
Willem DaFoe and his partner Elizabeth LeCompte. And
Spalding too had some film roles. I think I remember
seeing him once as host on Saturday Night Live.
I think though that he's most known for his monologues
and performances. My opinion is that he was one of a
kind. I see similarities to Eric Bogosian and yes Joe
Frank, but all 3 are distinctive in their own way.
Having lost a very dear friend to suicide, I can only
imagine what was going through his head when he
climbed up on the rail of the Staten Island Ferry and
plunged to his death. Is it worse for the family to
have to wait months to find out their loved one truly
did kill himself? Or is it better to discover the
truth of the tragedy immediately. I don't know.
