A followup:

I've received a reply back from His Majesty, and while he himself 
will be out of the country on the date in question, both he and Her 
Majesty are (and I quote) "attempting to formulate a means of 
providing the appropriate satisfaction of one so deserving kindness 
in this hour of need."

He then promised to be back in touch about it.

So...things are in good hands.  =)
