Folks, I am very sorry, but I'm cancelling Darkwood Choir practice for
tonight. To put it frankly, my health sucks at the moment -- what with
asthma problems, laryngitis, and sleep deprivation -- and one of my
guardian angels has just convinced me not to be a fool and make things
worse by trying to talk and sing in this condition, and by generally
wearing myself out more. So, I'll run away, and maybe live to sing
another day.

I apologize to you all, and especially to Anne, who was going to let us
use her home for practice tonight.

Na'arah, my redoubtable Choir Minion, is even now making phone calls to
notify people of this last-minute cancellation. Between the phone and
the mailing list, I hope we get everybody.

On the bright side, I have accomplished a great deal of work on the
processional music, and will upload it to the choir website as soon as I
am fairly happy with it. I have found that the hardest part of
composing this is not simply writing it (which is actually pretty easy),
but trying to make sure it will be enjoyable to modern ears while still
staying true to the archaic genre. We are used to music that is much
more sophisticated.

I have also been scoring "Darkwood, the Oak of the West" for choir.
 Currently I'm working on a 4-part version (1 soprano/teno, 2
alto/baritone, 1 bass), but I will probably come out with a 3-part
version, too, and we can decide which one works best for us.

See you all soon, I hope.

John
