UNIX directories and special device files
This appendix lists the most frequently used files
and directories on a UNIX system. Many of these
files and directories are required for proper
system operation and must not be removed or modified.
The following sections briefly describe each
directory.
This appendix also describes
device nodes relating to filesystems, terminals, and
other devices. For a full description of the special
files mentioned here, see the manual pages in the
HW section.
NOTE:
Most system files are symbolic links to locations in the
/opt and /var directories. See
