SCO Gateway for NetWare is a software system that allows an SCO
system to mount volumes from a NetWare file server. It also allows
print jobs from an SCO system to be printed on NetWare printers.
SCO Gateway for NetWare
is built upon Novell's networking protocols, in
particular the NetWare Core Protocol (NCP),
which provides the file operations, and
the Internetwork Packet eXchange protocol (IPX),
which provides the transport between machines.
SCO Gateway for NetWare operates simultaneously with other networking services, including
Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP),
NetWork File System (NFS),
as well as LAN Manager client and server.
SCO Gateway for NetWare has four software components. The first three are installed on the
UNIX system and the fourth is installed on NetWare.
The SCO Gateway for NetWare filesystem provides the interface between the virtual
UNIX filesystem and remote NetWare file servers.
The SCO Gateway for NetWare print system provides the interface between the UNIX system
print system and remote NetWare printers.
The SCO Gateway for NetWare graphical component provides a graphical way to access
SCO Gateway for NetWare services. See
Chapter 2, ``Using SCO Gateway for NetWare''
for more information.
There are two NetWare Loadable Modules (NLM).
The NFS and NUC NLMs run on
all NetWare versions 3 and greater.
These modules are necessary to add UNIX system file-naming and
permission semantics to SCO Gateway for NetWare filesystems. The NLMs are not
necessary to achieve full NetWare print capabilities of the SCO Gateway for NetWare
print system.
