About SCO Gateway for NetWare filesystems

SCO Gateway for NetWare has two filesystems: the SCO Gateway for NetWare filesystem (NUCFS) and the automount filesystem (NUCAM):

The automount filesystem is mounted when SCO Gateway for NetWare starts. It is located at /.NetWare. (Make note of the fact that, unlike many UNIX system directory names, this directory begins with a period, has a capital ``N'' and a capital ``W''.)

/.NetWare contains one directory for each NetWare server on the network. These directories, in turn, contain subdirectories for available NetWare volumes. For example, the configuration in Figure 3-1 is represented by the automount filesystem in Figure 3-2.

When a (logged in) user accesses a NetWare volume, the automount filesystem mounts (assuming the volume is not already mounted) the SCO Gateway for NetWare filesystem using the automount volume directory as its mount point.

For example, if a logged in user attempts to access a file in the SYS volume of NetWare server caracas, the automount filesystem mounts the SCO Gateway for NetWare filesystem with the SYS volume at the mount point /.NetWare/caracas.nws/sys.nwv.

Note that directory names for automounted servers have the ending .nws, and the directory names for automounted volumes have the ending .nwv.

The automount filesystem unmounts any NetWare volumes which have not been accessed for a (tunable) period of time. See ``Tuning the auto-unmount feature''.

The SCO Gateway for NetWare filesystem can also be mounted using the Filesystem Manager or the mount command. The mount point must be any directory other than the automount-specific /.NetWare directory. See mount(ADM) and ``Mounting and unmounting SCO Gateway for NetWare filesystems''.

Normally, only the superuser can mount SCO Gateway for NetWare filesystems. However, the superuser can define conditions under which users can mount selected SCO Gateway for NetWare filesystems. See mnt(C) and ``Enabling user mounting of SCO Gateway for NetWare filesystems''.
