Guidelines to using LMC

Guidelines to using LMC

There are several points you should be aware of before you start using LMC. These are described below.

Case conversion
LAN Manager for UNIX (LMU) servers, accounts, passwords and shares are all presumed to be uppercase. LMC converts user input of these parameters to uppercase. For example, lmc logon server acc is converted to lmc logon SERVER ACC. LMC will perform case conversion on remote filenames. They will appear as lowercase.

Access permissions
For filesystems being accessed from user-level security servers, all LMC files and directories appear executable and owned by the person accessing the resource. The execute bit is always set, and there are no permissions for other and group.

For resources being accessed from a share-level security server, the owner is root, the group is that of the user, and the permissions for group and other are those of the owner.

Using MMAP
If two users MMAP the same remote file, changes in one user's copy of the file would not be reflected in the other user's copy. The use of MMAP files with LMC is not recommended unless file locking is used.
