This horn-shaped bay lies on the European side of Istanbul and is one of the best natural harbors in the world. As such it was very important during Byzantine and Ottoman times. Today the bay is surrounded by lovely parks and promenades. The skyline of th e city as the sun sets behind the Golden Horn is like a fairy tale. The city streets along the banks of the Golden Horn are like a glance into the past. In Fener you can see whole streets with houses and churches from Byzantine times. Eyup is another impo rtant district which looks Ottoman with its old cemeteries and tombs of holy people. People come here to express their hopes and pray. From the hills above Eyup you have a wonderful view of the Golden Horn which you can enjoy with a cup of coffee in the t raditional Pierre Loti Cafe.
