Water Barrels!!!!

My first year at Burningman, I took 12 gallon jugs of water, some food, a tent, and my backpack with all my other stuff like closes.. One thing I learned is how to "sponge" bath in the tent.. This SUCKED!!!  So.. the next year I decided I wanted much much more water so I could shower... Screw these little solar showers I told myself... I wanted a LOT of water.  So.. I opted to get some barrels of water.  When I started my search, all I knew about was those standard blue barrels, kinda boring, but that's what I was looking for.. Man I looked... and to no avail I never found em.. I looked for a good 6 months, until one day I was driving around in Capitola, (near Santa Cruz, CA) and BAM!  There it was.. My source for barrels.. All I could ever want!  And for CHEAP!!!!  So.. Now I am going to share that information to all of you.   Its funny, a friend I work with (Who goes to Burningman) told me his group tried out using garbage cans.. Didn't work all that well.  So now this is a new option for ya!

Check em out!

Click on the image above to see the other pics I took for ya all.. The200_1.jpg image is of a 200 gallon container that they have there, but are not for sale.  I really would have loved to have a couple of em!  The GREEN barrels are $30 each, and all the other ones are $25 each.  I have many of the Gray ones ($25).  They worked VERY well for me.  I picked up 3, and took 2 to BM98 and also picked up an $85 - 45 PSI pump from West Marine, and I had myself and entire water system.  We could run 2 misters, a shower, and 2 hoses all at THE SAME TIME with no problems at all! All run off a 12 VDC car battery. (Battery with heavy use, lasts 1.5 days or so.. I had several, along with a battery charger, and generator.  Anytime the Generator ran, the batteries were charged up!)

The gray barrels have ribbing along the sides for strength, and they are pretty strong! All of these barrels are used, and from the food services, some of the images have what they had in them, things like Soy Sauce, Orange Juice, Peppers, Vinegar, etc.  I found that with my power washer, and some soap, they cleaned up in no time, and there was NO taste in them at all.  The tops spin on, and have a small oh, roughly 2" cap in the center that works well for a hose to go into , without having to take the whole top off.  I took the top off, and cleaned them several times prior to going to BM.  Then I drove up with them to Reno empty, filled them in Boom City, and continued to BM.

Good luck!  See ya at BM99!!!
