My personal activism page

OK, OK, I'm changing the focus of this page. Instead of having it be some kind of virtual netGrrrl-Scout sash of badges (letters I've written, most of which would soon lose their timeliness anyway), I've decided to use this page to list things that YOU can do right now while you're reading this.

I've gotten really behind on updating my pages, so don't be too surprised if there isn't a lot here at any given time. Feel free to mail me suggestions if you like, though stuff along the lines of "web page soliciting donations to erect a 200-foot-tall statue of Jesse Helms" will assuredly be ignored.

Gawd, does this page need updating right now! I just took out some outdated items and need to add new ones.

Send e-mail to President Clinton and other elected officials

The former is just about as easy as it gets: Whenever Clinton does or says something that you do or don't like, it takes about no time at all to mail president@whitehouse.gov and dash off a few lines urging him to do or not do something, expressing congratulations or distress, etc. All you need is to get into the habit of doing it.

Similarly, many Senators and Representatives also have e-mail addresses.

Subscribe to "Action Alert" mailing lists

I have very little time to look at anyone's web pages, but something that has come in really handy for me is the various "Action Alert"-type mailing lists out there. If you subscribe to these lists, you'll get regular bulletins describing actions you can take (usually letter-writing or phone calling), usually including very detailed information about the problem/opportunity, sample letters, and addresses and/or phone numbers. Here are four (affiliated with the above web pages) to start with:
