world cup 2006

The FIFA world cup has started in high fashion increasing the world cup fever all over the world especially in Japan. But there are few dismal performance from some of the favourites like Germany and England. Though both won their first match with their opponents, their victory is not very convincing

Germany conceded two goals against Costa Rica but their strikers came up very well lately to keep their hopes alive.

One of the two teams with lot of hype generated their respective media are England and Japan. England media is very positive about their team to win this world cup. But they luckily got one goal (self goal by Paraguay) and escaped with 3 points. England strikers were sloppy right from the beginning. Paraguay physically pounded the English though in the first half the ball never crossed the centre line towards English time most of the time. But the later half Paraguay gained momentum and English really struggled well.

I could watch only these two matches because of time difference and Japanese broadcasters don't telecast all the matches.

Few people claiming themselves as Soccer Experts are talking rubbish things in Japan and have placed very high hopes on their team. Some comedians even suggest that Japan will lift the cup and are raising soccer fever among the general public with false hopes. I guess it should be fine for Japan if it gets to the second round. Nobody impresses me in Japan other than Alesandro Santos and Nakamura. Nakamura is bit sloppy these days but he can produce some nice shots. Anyhow I will support Japan since I live here though my favourites are always Argentina and Brazil since my school days.

But definitely the player I would love to watch is Ronaldinho not because of the media attention on him but I am keenly watching him since last world cup when the attention was towards Zidane and Beccam.
