Hi

When preparing NI3 it's a good idea to dissolve the iodine in potassium
iodide solution first. I've used this method several times and it never
fails.

BTW the product can be purified by washing it with water (to remove ammonia)
with ethanol (to remove iodine and water) and with aether (to remove ethanol).

Of course, there is no need for that (especially the last step), but just
in case you might be interested...
