Invite to the Eleventh Armory February Party

Nineteen Eighty-Nine…

It was a time of statlabs, Lazer Tag, SEKA expansion, John Forum, Elfland
excursions, mconv, PC/XTs, daily food runs, drink umbrellas, Cafe Capitola,
mtrek, and the occasional earthquake. It was a time when geeks dialed up port
selectors with their terminals and 2400 baud modems and thought they were
terribly fast. Internet users were a privileged few, little knowing what
awaited their enclave. UNIX B held a seemingly unshakable position as the
social focal point of many, many lives…

And in this year, a new geek house was founded by five of those b-folk.
A month later, the house was inaugurated with a party that is remembered,
albeit hazily, to this day. Within a year, only one of the founders remained,
but despite that first party, distraight neighbors and hysterical landlords,
the house still stands, and the month of February still rolls around…

Yes, it's time for the Eleventh Annual February Armory Birthday Party!
Additionally celebrating, this year, the Tenth Anniversary of the Founding
of the Armory (and the tenth anniversary of that very first party!)

Is there a theme? Of course! You are to Come As You Were In 1989, or your
best approximation thereof! Break out the photo albums, rummage through the
closets for the clothing you wore that fateful night, start growing your hair
or cutting it short, put on some weight or sweat it off, practice that old
attitude… and be quick about it. The party opens this Friday, February 26th,
at 8:00PM (and likely closes sometime the following morning.)

If you wish, bring icons of the Eighties, especially its waning years.
Whatever epitomizes it best for you… and you can lay your hands on.

To help jog those ossified recollections, the original invite is attached
below. Prepare to meet thy memory…

	John, Armoror

Subject: Sextuple Bday Party!!!
Cc: jedi penguin siona tejas

Friday, February 24, 1989, starting at 8:00 P.M. Yes, next Friday!
Birthday party for 6 people born in an abritrary 7-day span.
To wit: John/spcecdt (24th), Dierdre/siona (24th), Verna/penguin (20th),
Chris/jedi (25th), Tejas/tejas (26th), and Alex/alibaba (26th).
Bring fud/alkehol if you feel like it.
There will be much fun and revelry.

NOTE: We moved in just a month or so ago, and the landlord was really
paranoid about us ticking the neighbors off with parties. So...
a) We are going to try to keep things inside.
b) We will have music but not sooper-loud.
c) PLEASE do not park on McMillan. According to the landlord he gets calls
from the neighbors when the street is filled up by partygoers. Park on
Nobel and walk down; it is a very short distance.

A crude, horrible unscalish and otherwise inaccurate map follows.
If you reply to this *PLEASE* use 'r' not 'R'!

  To get to The Armory:
From Campus: Go down Bay to the first stoplight and turn left onto Nobel Dr.,
which is actually the only way you can turn onto Nobel since if you turn right
you will be on Iowa Dr. Continue on Nobel until you come to McMillan Dr. and
turn left onto it. (If you turn right you will be in someone's living room
and The Armory will not be held liable.) The Armory is on the right in the
middle of the first block, #305. It is a two-story house, off-white with brown trim.
