Mad Science Fair - Butane Freezing Apparatus

Butane Freezing Apparatus

Procedure:
A monouse Fe/C alloy cylinder containing liquified C4H10 feeds liquid & gas through a highly flexible plasticized vinyl conduit to a Cu/Zn alloy port on a polyvinyl chloride chamber formed from standard prethreaded versatile construction units. The chamber is immersed in liquid N2 stabilized via evaporation at its liquid/gas phase transition point at 760T and 77K, with a high thermal barrier to ambient conditions provided by an evacuated-wall vessel. In this chamber the fluid is brought below its solidification temperature of 135K, and so forms a plug. The intent is that the chamber can then be disassembled to gain access to the plug, which will be retrieved and subjected to first-order pyrolytic analysis.
