This picture is here mainly so I can relate this anecdote:
This camp was illuminated by large globe-type mercury discharge lamps, not ordinary UV tubes. I walked in and then turned and faced the lamps - and my vision washed out! The UV being emitted by their lamps was intense enough and/or of such a wavelength that it made my contacts fluoresce.
