Fourth of July 1989 - Scott Launching GI Flare

Scott Launching GI Flare

How this type of ground illumination flare is launched: You take the cap off of one end, push it onto the other end, and then hit it on something. A pin on the inside of the cap hits a primer and an ejection charge fires the rocket out of the tube. Spring-loaded metal fins pop out, and its rocket engine fires after it's far enough away from you that the exhaust won't hurt you.
