tapeworm@netcom.com was the gentleman who came up with this geek favor. A normal one is made with brown leather, with the tri-@ symbol imprinted in it. It allowed us computer people to easily identify others of the clan. After all, it's not exactly in character to ask if someone is a computer person, but a little thing like this makes identification oh so much easier. A special purple and gold one was presented to the queen and she wore it with pride for the rest of the '94 Northern Ren Faire.
