From the lowlands up to the Base Camp, there was now an enclosed structure, like 50 stories of ramps and elevators with a series of lobby areas that had snack bars, bathrooms, and various sorts of educational displays-- history of the region, geographical stuff, scale models, regional crafts and culture, etc. It was now very easy to get to the Base Camp if you wanted to. You didn't have to walk all the ramps, you could just use the elevator, but I was with a group of people and we wanted to be "tough" so we were going to walk the whole thing. I didn't know the other people, it was two guys and two girls who I met at the valley. About halfway up the two girls needed to go the bathroom so we waited for them. They didn't come back for a long time so we went looking and eventually found them asleep in a storage closet amidst piles of cleaning supplies and junk. When we woke them up, they wanted to go back down. How could they give up so easily?
