Summer of 2001. Jade and I are attending a community event of some sort, like a Rotarian thing or some other superficial social club, and George W. Bush is speaking at it. There still has not been a decision on the presidential election and both Gore and Bush are pretty much traveling around the country acting like they'll be president any minute now. The two sides are choosing to almost totally ignore each other at this point.
Bush is a surprisingly entertaining speaker. I wish I could remember what he was there to talk about, though, because all through it he was making the same "almost the right word" speaking errors, slip ups, etc. and I was amused at how all the jokes weren't exaggeration. Also, I found myself begrudgingly admiring his casual use of profanity; his generic term for any abstract person as an example was "asshole", as in, "Why should your tax dollars support some other asshole's drug habit?" and "It's the duty of each and every asshole in your community to help make it work."
