It was going to be the end of the world, and everyone knew it. Fire, from some source, was going to scour everything above the surface of the Earth so everyone wanted to be underground. I walked through the Macarthur Tunnel in San Francisco; there were lines of people queued up to go down one of the sewer drains. There wasn't anything down there to make life comfortable, or even possible, but people were so desperate to not be above ground that they were willing to take their chances in storm drains.
I had pretty much given up on it all, myself, so I took a boat out to one of the islands in the Bay, maybe Alcatraz. There was a cathedral on the island, long abandoned. It had a tall tower, which I decided would be a fine place to watch the apocalypse from. So I headed in. Inside were two young girls. Both were training to be nuns, in different religious orders however. I don't know what religious orders either one belonged to, but neither was dressed like you'd expect a nun to be. In fact, both look like walking advertisments for fetishwear. They had taken refuge in the church to pray to God that the disaster would be averted.
I made up my mind then and there that, before everything was totally destroyed, I'd have sex with both of them.
However, first I went upstairs to see if the tower view was going to be what I'd hoped for. It was. However, while I was up there, the first part of the disaster struck and it wasn't fire as everyone had thought-- it was a sudden rise in the ocean levels. I was looking down from the tower, watching a bunch of fishermen on the beach, and suddenly the water just climbed up and swallowed them... then kept on rising, covering the whole island. Down the tower stairs, I heard a sudden rushing sound and felt a blast of air pressure as the water swirled into the church. It all rose so high that it was coming up the stairs, but it stopped just short of where I was standing.
Obviously, the two girls down in the chapel were completely drowned. So was everyone who had taken refuge underground, since there were tens of feet of standing water above them-- anything not watertight had been totally flooded, and anything that was watertight couldn't be opened and exited safely ever again.
I resolved to swim to the nearest land-- which was miles away-- and find a better vantage point for the coming flames.
