Wren Meets the Penguins

On April 16, we went down to Monterey to see the new, child-oriented "Splash Zone" at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Wren was absolutely fascinated with the fish and other brightly colored critters. The highlight of the trip for all, though, would probably be the black-footed penguins now on display.

Penguins, of course, are speedy birds in the water, and the water's surface was right around face level for Wren. They were particularly pleased when one of the birds popped up right in front of them.

Also on the trip were Laura's mother, and our friends Penguin (yes, really!) and John. Here's a picture of Wren and Penguin:

Mostly of Wren, though. Oops. :)

There's also a big plastic clam for people to get their pictures taken in. (I know that's bad grammar - I just can't figure out how to say it!) We, naturally, took advantage of this. (There are also real giant clams on display, but they're mere babies themselves - only about a foot across.

And that was Wren's first trip to the aquarium! We expect there will be many more in the future.
