If you would have done a Reconfigure before releasing A, you would have gotten the same warning and your project B would be empty or gone. You need to copy the new Release value to all of the objects that are under your B project by first querying for them and then changing one object and then using Attribute Copy to copy the release to the rest of them. Then all of your objects will show up if you reconfigure your project A. Remember your Reconfigure is based on the Baseline which is your last Release value and then included Tasks. Project B must still have Release Y, but project A has a different Release value. You did not say what Release value you had for project A. Jean is correct as well. The only thing is I think the B project never got the same release values and was not in the work area when project A was released. I would have to look at it to see. The principle still stands. The new project you just checked out will have everything from the baseline Release that you checked out of plus any new tasks you add. This means that either project B objects were not released along with project A because they were reconfigured out before the release or they were not associated with a task. Files objects do not have a baseline attribute. They only have Release value and a task association value. Either the release value is wrong for these objects or the Task that they are associated with is not included in the Baseline. The other possibility is they did not get a Task associated with them in the first place for whatever reason. Check these 2 things and you should be able to determine what happened. When you check out from Project B again to a prep project. You need check and select baseline from reconfigure properties. Project B is new it do not have baseline when you check in the first time. It cause the problem you need add the tasks. After you check in the first time, you have proper baseline. it won't need task again. If Yes , then what is the parmanent solution? I was also trying the method suggested by Dan Martin of attribute copy. However, you can remove a sub-project from the hierarchy using the unuse command. The unuse command will also create a new version of the top level directory of the top level project. This should be done as a task in a developer project and then checked in. Or, you can do it as a build manager in a prep project, check in the project, and update the reconfigure templates to pick up the new project hierarchy as the new baseline. > > > 2) can two projects have the same release value? > eg. I have one project say A with release value R. I > want to release this project and want to derive one > project from it say B. > can project B have release value R? > Two projects can have the same release value. As long as you set your reconfigure templates so that project A is the baseline for project B, you will be fine (use the version matching attribute rather than release value to drive baseline). This only works if the project is no longer used in any other projects and work areas. By unusing it is essentially gone. I like to leave it in the database for the history unless it is quite huge.
