I watched Barfly a lot when I was in college and got into Bukowski’s autobiographical works like Factotum and Hollywood, when a friend told me I might be interested in Joe with the example of Tomorrow. </p><p class=MsoNormal>I do think that his first person half hour shows (In the Dark era?) like Green Cadillac and Just Hold Me really have a Bukowski vibe to them. They both lived in LA at the same time so meeting or at least being aware of each other doesn’t seem unreasonable.
