The hitman in 'Hit man' 'came across an ancient and beautiful
Gibson L0 with a rosewood neck and reglued the braces and replaced the
nut and some of the old frets and pegs, which I found very
satisfying.'
In the opening of 'The road to hell' Joe says, 'Carrying my
beat-up old Gibson L0, its strings rusted, I strum the lonely hobo
song, the sad litany of mile after mile.'
In 'Margarita' David Rapkin invoices Larry for the guitar
Larry borrowed and never returned, 'It wasn't a check - it was an
invoice: an invoice for a 1939 Gibson L0 guitar - a honey of a guitar
that Larry had borrowed during a folk-singing phase of his life back
in the early 1960s. And I realized the loss when I opened the
hardshell case and noticed an IOU note from Larry dated November 16th
1964. And I did some quick math and came up with the $100,000 figure
and invoiced Larry immediately and I'm still waiting.'
