[joe-frank-list] Larry Block

I loved Larry and was sad to hear of his passing. I don't know how many
people follow Joe on Facebook <https://www.facebook.com/joefrankradio>, but
that's where I tend to get my Joe Frank news these days.

Favorite Larry moments anyone? I'll start:

The story he tells at the start of "Karma 4 Dollars", which I've come to
call "Gnawing Sense of Self-Loathing"

*"I have a funny feeling that this gnawing sense of self-loathing which
grew very much in me today... of despair... may have been, to a certain
extent, fed by this experience I had a few days ago, of seeing about a 5
minute clip from this one-man show that I have done over the last few years.

And I'm actually doing in a week and a half... or less, actually a week
from Wednesday I'll be doing it up in Massachusetts.

And some people got together and did a video tape version of the show
and... the acting values were just fine. But the way I looked was very
troubling. I looked bloated, I looked stuffed...

And it didn't help that the camera guy had chosen to shoot from a low
angle. And since I was standing on a stage, just low enough that it was,
like, all jowls and nostrils... So I looked like a

chipmunk... these jowls were stuffed with nuts... berries, and little
teeth. Little tiny teeth sticking out, you know... and these little puffy
eyes... It was just grotesque..."*
