Message-ID: <19EEFD17-CA0E-45FE-B4B2-92D4A041F165@mac.com> Just wondering if anyone had got any news of Joe's health recently, if he's still working on Santa Monica Book of The Dead... I ran into Griifin Dunne at a bar in NYC last week. I confessed I was a fan of his work, & managed to work up the nerve to ask him about After Hours and the JF program Lies... He replied he hadn't been aware of the controversy until afterwards, but was a fan of Joe's work. He had heard Joe has not been well and expressed concern. I'm also working with Richard Foreman, a NY avant-garde theater director, who is also a fan of Joe's programs. He has also heard Joe has not been well. The last news update on the website was in July... and damnit, Joe... we're all pulling for you. If you happen to read this and are well enough to travel to New York, there will be always be a seat reserved for you at Richard Foreman's show "Wake Up Mr. Sleepy! Your Unconscious Mind Is Dead!" We're running Jan 19th through May 6th. The list has been kind of quiet as of late, anyone got anything? Or how he's managing to exercise his artistic side: Is he producing, or recording, or writing? Is he reading, and if so, what's he reading now? Is he going to attempt to tackle Thomas Pynchon's latest 1000+ page tome, or does that seem a waste of time now? Okay, to be more honest -- because I'm passionate about Joe's work but not so obsessed that I need to know all the details of his life -- I'm more or less simply wondering how he's doing. That is, when I'm not dwelling on other, and more personal, matters of my own. Let's just say that we all have some type of illness in our lives -- whether that be a mom with (what seems to be an) irreversible and deteriorating condition, a girlfriend with a debiliating illness, or your own struggle with alcholism or depression or whatever beguiles you. From my experience, when you encounter illness, you learn to live with it, one way or another. Either that, or you let it *become* you; I've let that happen all too often. Here's blatant speculation, based on no evidence: 1) Perhaps Joe is struggling with his new manner of living. 2) Perhaps the initial struggle is over, and he's just now getting somewhat comfortable with the way his life has been rearranged. 3) Perhaps Joe never struggled as much as some of us may believe. 4) Perhaps Joe came to a personal realization that his work is complete, and now he's "retiring in style". 5) Perhaps Joe is hard at work on a new project. 6) Perhaps Joe is hardly at work on a new project, but will suddenly be inspired to complete the work after reading this message. 7) Perhaps Joe has already engaged in numerous activities we're all unaware of, and may never know. (This last item seems most likely.) In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <20061129053006.GA17383@jabberwock.hopto.org> Welcome, Doug. I'd also be happy to see original air dates added to the wiki; however, if such a list exists, it has never been made public. The WFMU FAQ has programs listed by year and possibly ordered chronologically, although they don't explicitly mention to what the years refer. They may be production dates, KCRW air dates, or the year a tape arrived on someone's desk at WFMU. (One might expect the three to be similar, at least for most programs.) Given Joe's habit of re-working older material and occasionally releasing different programs with the same name, trying to listen to the whole canon in order is by no means a trivial task. If you make any progress on finding air dates, I'd love to hear about it. The question of ordering the Karma series came up a while ago. What follows is a repost of my best guess at the proper order for those particular programs. Best, Erik ------------- The WFMU FAQ has a list which may be in original broadcast order. Main page is at http://wfmu.org/JF/ and the relevant part is at http://wfmu.org/JF/joe_show.html#2001_1 There's also the defunct KCRW page, which seems to have been maintained in reverse chronological order except where programs are removed. A snapshot with most of Karma is at: http://web.archive.org/web/20001206141400/http://www.kcrw.org/cgi-bin/db/kcrw.pl?tmplt_type=program&show_code=jf According to both sources the order is: karma part 1-7 bad karma Karma 4 dollars karma don't deny me Karma Redux Small World Karma Waiting for Karma Karma Memories Karma Crash From bewareofdog at mac.com Wed Nov 29 11:56:50 2006 From: bewareofdog at mac.com (bewareofdog@mac.com) Date: Wed Nov 29 11:57:06 2006 Subject: [joe-frank-list] JOE FRANK IPODS In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: I don't know if anyone saw this yet but check out the news page on the Joe Frank site.
