Message-ID: <4367CCF6.1080902@pacbell.net>

Sorry, there will be NO Darkwood Choir practice tonight: I am still not
over my cold enough for that.

Since some of you asked about 12th Night: I had not planned on us
performing on our own at 12th Night. However, Alessandro and I are both
enthusiastic about the idea of the Darkwood Choir and the West Kingdom
Choir singing some songs together as one big choir. Tentatively, we are
thinking about a joint effort on the following songs:
   Gaudete (dead easy)
   Joseph Lieber, Joseph mein (moderate)
   Riu, Riu, Chiu (easy)
   Vitrum nostrum gloriosum (dead easy)

I will post music files of these pieces in the Files section of the
Yahoo group. Listen and tell me what you think.

The West Kingdom Choir is also planning to perform some other pieces
which are much more difficult. The Darkwood Choir will not join in
performing those, because there simply isn't time for you to learn the
parts. Among them are:
    Ave Maria, gratia plena
    O plasmator
    Kyrie eleison (Guillaume Dufay)
    Alleuya, a nywe werke
    O magnum mysterium (Victoria)

John

The Baron and Baroness of Westermark welcomed their daughter Amanda
into the world last night around 8:30pm after nearly 24 hours of
labor (but only 15 mins of pushing - lucky lady!). She was 8 lbs 14
oz and my, does she have a bountiful head of lovely dark hair!

Just thought y'all would want to know...

Message-ID: <20051107195629.40692.qmail@web51410.mail.yahoo.com>

Greetings Dancers,

This is your reminder for Thursday, November 10.

On the 2nd and 4th Thursdays we will be having dance
practice at the Galleria Parking Structure in Santa Cruz. Leonor la
Obstinada and Francisco de Acero have volunteered to teach dance at
the
same time and place as the fighter/rapier practices. So if the 1st,
3rd, and 5th Thursdays haven't been enough dance in Darkwood for you,
here is another opportunity. If the experiment goes well, we will try
to continue it in future months.

This is a beginning level dance practice. No previous experience is
necessary. Practice starts at 7:30 pm and runs to approximately 9:00
pm. We suggest street clothes, rather than garb, for practice. This is
an outdoor venue, please dress appropriately and wear comfortable
footwear.

We will be sharing the practice location with the rapier and fighter
practice.

If you have any questions or if you would like to be added to the
Darkwood Dance List in yahoo groups, please contact:

Directions:
>From the south:

Take Hwy 1 to the intersection of River Street in Santa Cruz--it's the
very
first stoplight once you hit Santa Cruz. Turn left onto River Street.

***Go through the next two stoplights--the last one will be the
intersection
of River and Water Streets---you will come to an odd intersection in
less
than a block that has either a stop SIGN if you go straight or curves
around
to the right----go to the stop SIGN---continue on straight through
it---there will be a Wells Fargo Bank on your right---the Galleria
Parking
Structure is right after the bank on the right.

>From Hwy. 17 (San Jose area) ----17 stops at Hwy. 1--take Hwy 1 NORTH
to the
River Street stoplight/intersection. Follow directions from ***

Go up to the third floor---second floor if it is raining. There we
are.

The Rapier Marshall, Brigit's cell is on during practice. Her number
is 831-334-2652 if anyone gets lost and needs help.

Message-ID: <4374BC92.5050707@monkeymanor.net>

/[Apologies for any duplicates due to cross-posting.]/

Unto the List,

In a fit of temporary insanity, I compiled a comprehensive collection of
SCA-specific group email lists and posted it as the "College of St.
David's SCA eList Directory":

    http://medievalfun.org/webminister/elists.html

It currently has 250+ listings, and I expect the directory will continue
to grow over time. Included items were fished from a sea of
approximately 2,500 search results (yes, I read them *all*). Most are
West Kingdom oriented and the rest pertain to general topics potentially
of interest to SCA enthusiasts all around the Known World. All 250+
eLists in the directory are confirmed SCA-affiliated and active.

With 26 major topical categories, this puppy has got something for
everyone - whether you're an officer, new to the SCA, or your SCA career
is old enough vote or run for president.

Please, don't let the cramping in my hands and my geeky little psychotic
break go to waste! Visit St. David's new eList directory, tell your
friends, put links to it on your website -- what ever it takes to spread
the word. :)

Yours in Service,
 - Cassandra Rossignol

Hello Everyone,

Below are links to photos I took at Mists Fall Investiture 2005. You
have my permission to pass them around and/or publish them in any of the
usual SCA-related venues.

Apologies for names that may be mispelled or not mentioned. Names are
not my best thing. :(

Also, I'm sorry for the inconvenient method of dissemination, but it's
the best I could do this time. Hopefully, the better photos will end up
on the West Kingdom History site and they'll be easier to view then.

As a service to those who may be interested in dance:

This is your reminder for Darkwood Dance, 3rd Thursday
of the month, November 17, 2005. We are in Morgan Hill at the home of
Adriana and Marco.

This is a beginning level dance practice. No previous
experience is necessary. The featured dances for

mainly these dances at each practice for the ensuing two months or
until there is sufficient proficiency.

Practice starts at 7:30 pm and runs to approximately
9:00 pm. We then break for root beer floats and
snacks. In courtesy to those who must go to
work/school early the next day (including our hosts),
we'd like to try to be prompt starting and stopping.
We suggest street clothes, rather than garb, for
practice. Clean, soft-soled shoes are a bonus.

added to the Darkwood Dance List in yahoo groups,
please contact:

Message-ID: <20051114190803.12288.qmail@web51403.mail.yahoo.com>

There are 10 Wednesday practices between now and the Crosston
Dance Ball on 21Jan05. The last Wednesday of November is a fifth
Wednesday, and on that evening we will try to dance as many of
the dances from the list for the Dance Ball and 12th Night as we
can. To double your learning, please consider attending the
Thursday evening Darkwood Dance practice, see times and
directions at the end of this message.

The beginners dance class will start at 7pm and go to 7:45. One
dance will be taught every week for 4-6 weeks. This week we will
be continuing Fiamma d'Amore. Beginners are welcome to stay
through the usual class from 7:45 to 9pm.

There are numerous dance events coming up as we move into the
feast season:
** The Duchess's ball at 12th Night:
http://www.westkingdom.org/calendar/12th_night2006.php
** The Crosston Dance Ball on Saturday 21January06, no website
yet but it will be held at the Palo Alto Art Center, behind the
main library on Newell Rd.

1st, 3rd, and 5th Wednesdays in San Jose

Dance practice starts about 7:00pm. We normally wear street
clothes, rather than garb, for practice. Clean, soft-soled shoes
or socks are required. We normally break around 9pm for dinner
and rootbeer floats. Feel free to forward this message to people
who ask about dance practice.

Here's the directions that assume you are coming from the north
for 1st, 3rd, 5th Wednesdays:
Take your favorite route to 85, just south of 87 (Guadalupe).
Take the Blossom hill exit, stay in the left lane.
Turn left at the bottom of the exit ramp. Stay in the left
lane.
Turn left at the second light, Snell, just past the Shell gas
station.
Go for many blocks, turn right on Branham, just before the 76
station.
Turn left at the first light, Park Arcadia. Go straight until
Park Arcadia dead-ends into Park Paxton, turn left.
Turn right on Park Essex (I think it's the third right).

Rafael and Elspeth's is the third house is on the right.
Parking is getting a bit tight, you may have to park on Paxton
and walk a block.

76 Park Essex Pl. San Jose CA
Directions from Yahoo!Maps are generally reliable, although from
the north it will take you on the 101/Guadalupe/Capitol route.

see you there!

We welcome newcomers. :-)

TIME: 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm, Tuesday, November 15

And for the first time, Champions in rapier and boffer

Princess' Champion - rapier - Staffan Affruidson

Princess' Champion - boffer - Benjamin of Castlewood (B.J.)
Two of the other boffer fighters, Katrina Ivanova and Marcus, were
named Boffer Guardsman, under Benjamin. And the fourth, Aidan of

Message-ID: <437B811A.7030507@santiagosmagic.com>

Greetings;

As many of you know in the next couple of months Henry and Eriney are
going to be leaving our fair lands and moving out of kingdom.

For a long time now they have hosted the Canton of Caer Darth website
and mail list, but once they are gone this is not going to be something
they will be able to continue doing.

So, to that end, we will be making some changes. I will be taking over
these duties.

The new website will be located at:

http://www.cantonofcaerdarth.org

and the new mail list will be a yahoo group. The information for the
yahoo group is below.

Post message: cantonofcaerdarth@yahoogroups.com
Subscribe: cantonofcaerdarth-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
Unsubscribe: cantonofcaerdarth-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com
List owner: cantonofcaerdarth-owner@yahoogroups.com

The yahoo group is currently available for signing up. The old list is
still functioning and will continue to do so for some time yet, however
we will be making the announcments of when the official change over will
take place reasonably soon. So please update your mailing lists
appropriately please.

The new website should be coming on-line in the next few hours. It is
currently a duplicate of the old website and will remain that way for a
while as well so that people don't get to lost in the differences.

Thank you for your attention,

Juan Santiago

Dear Darkwood,

Sorry for the late notice, the Darkwood meeting is Monday, November 21, at
7:00 pm at the Elkhorn Yacht Club in Moss Landing. As usual, the meeting
will start as soon after 7:00 as dinner service allows. If you have any
business you want placed on the agenda, please notify me by NOON on
Monday.

To get there:

>From the NORTH: go south on Hwy. 1 past Watsonville. The road narrows
down to 2 lanes. When you pass the Beacon station (the only gas station
on this stretch of road), go about another mile, and the entrance to the
Yacht Club is on your right. If you get to the bridge, you just passed
it. We are allowed to use the parking spaces marked "Yacht Club members
only".

>From the SOUTH: Take Hwy. 1 North to Moss Landing, croos the bridge and go
about 2/10 of a mile, the driveway will be on your left. If you get to
the big curve in the road, you've gone too far. We are allowed to use the
parking spaces marked "Yacht Club members only".

See you Monday,
Caterina di Guglielmo,
Darkwood Seneschal

Message-ID: <20051122154622.89809.qmail@web51405.mail.yahoo.com>

Greetings All,

As some of you know, I helped out on Security at last Estrella War. I
enjoyed doing it and plan to do so again. I have discussed this with
Their Royal Highness, Fabian and Eliska, who are encouraging and
supporting this effort.

To that end, and with the permission and approval of the Estrella
Security Staff, I am putting out a challenge for the West Kingdom
contingent attending Estrella, to cover Security on the Friday night of
the War (February 17, 2006).

Other groups are also being challenged in this regard, for other nights
of the war. I have been charged with organizing this for the West. I
know that many Westerners plan to go to the War. Some
plan to volunteer. Please consider working Friday night.

I'm putting together a database right now of shifts and jobs. Our
shift is 8pm Friday to 8am Saturday.
I'm trying to work it to be 2 hour shifts only (unless you WANT to work
more).

Jobs are foot patrol, gate, Security Hut (which means both covering
paperwork and being my "Ack!!! I need another body in this slot"
person.

If you want to have a golf cart patrol you need to:

1. work either gate or foot patrol for one hour, then you can have an
hour of cart patrol.

2. if you want to DRIVE golf cart, you need to qualify as
a driver per the regulations of Estrella (valid drivers license, proof
of insurance, membership, etc.)

If Friday night isn't convenient, I know Security would love to have
your volunteer services, regardless of time slot. If you volunteer for
work, your hours qualify your group for payments
from the Estrella War profits.

Second, you get tickets for a drawing of stuff donated by the
merchants, in proportion to your time. Details on the Volunteer perks
will be found on the Estrella War site.

Despite the work, it should be fun.
Yours in service,

Na'arah bat Avraham - The Momstable

Visit St. David's new eList directory, tell your
friends, put links to it on your website -- what ever it takes to spread
the word. :)

It's a Fifth Wednesday Dance Party!

This week we will try to dance as many of the dances from the
list for the Dance Ball and 12th Night as we can.
