Well let's try for functioning. I would like to think that a love of
chile peppers and very spicy foods has not died out in the
Bay Area.

It's been a while since I've seen a posting come across. Good timing
since I just made up another batch of "Trevor's Gutbomb" salsa today.
Would like to see more activity in the chile world.

I recently tried a Red Savina Garlic Sauce. Nice stuff. I don't remember
where I bought it, but the label lists wildpepper.com as a web address.

Yes, that sauce can be purchased here: http://wildpepper.com/sauces.html
It's about halfway down the page. I had a bottle of it several years
ago, and can recommend it. Quite hot, and lots of garlic.

I've made this recipe
(http://sweatnspice.com/recipes/tropical-fire-hot-sauce) several times,
and it has quickly become my favorite. I don't strain it before
bottling, so it has a nice thickness to it. I use homegrown peppers,
primarily red savina, thai dragon, jamaican red, pequin, and some white
bullet. The more the better!

Wow, you must grow the savinas indoors. I've been four years w/o a fresh one, and will drive anywhere in the Bay Area if you'll sell
me a handful to take to the owners of Tastebuds Indian Restaurant, (who have a hothouse in Hanford).

It seems like some BACH person used to import Red Savinas to the
Bay Area sometime back. I could misremember,

Another I would like to be able to get fresh is Barkers from NM.

I still have a habanero in my greenhouse that puts out more chiles
than I can possibly consume. Short of hot sauce, the summer ripening
ones are just too much for me to cook with, though the winter ripening
ones are more manageable. I take them to work, along with the extra
Bulgarian Carrots, purple pequins, and the odd serrano, and put them
out by the espresso machine - they disappear pretty quickly.

Bill,

The Red Savinas and Bhut Jolakias are avialable from Cross Country Nurseries.? They sell the seedlings and in the fall have fresh peppers to sell as well.

Best to you,

Jim,

When Joni and I owned Salsas, Etc!, we would bring in 500 pounds that we would get direct from GNS Spices.? Alan kind of took over for a while until GNS wouldn't support our smaller buy.? I have been growing the Red Savinas, Bhut Jolakia, Devil's Tongue and Biker Billy Jalapenos.? I yeild about 10 pounds of each which supports my habit.? I get my seedlings every year from Cross Country Nurseries.? They have 300 or so different chiles available.

Nagaraj,

They are slightly hotter with a?similar flavor (not quite as full flavored).? The pepper itself is not quite as meaty as the Red Savina.? They seem to be slower to take off when growing, but I get a good yield here in San Jose.
